Diabetes is a chronic condition in which there is a high level of sugar (Glucose) in the bloodstream. When we eat foods, it is broken down into Glucose by our liver which is absorbed by our fat and muscle's cells and stored for energy. Diabetes develops when the Pancreas does not produce enough Insulin, which is a hormone which allows the body to absorb glucose.
Diabetes is classified into 2 main types:
Type 1 Diabetes is when the body makes little or no Insulin requiring daily injections of Insulin. It typically occurs during childhood or adolescence.
Type 2 Diabetes is where the body makes Insulin but cannot use it properly. It typically develops in adulthood but is becoming more prevalent in children because of high obesity rates. Type 2 Diabetes accounts for over 90% of Diabetes cases
The most common symptoms of advanced Diabetes include:
Blurred vision, Frequent urination, Excessive thirst,Decreased Libido, Weight loss/Hunger
If Diabetes is not adequately treated and controlled, long term complications such as cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, kidney failure, retinal damage can occur.
There is currently no cure for Diabetes.
Type 2 Diabetes is the result of a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Although Diabetes can run in families, it is often associated with unhealthy lifestyle factors such as obesity, poor diet and high blood pressure.
Diabetes is known to Chinese medicine over 2,000 years ago when Chinese medical texts referred to the disease known as 'Xiao Ke' (Wasting Thirst) resulting from consuming too much fatty, sweet or rich foods--often by wealthy people.
Acupuncture and Dr. Zhao's proprietary Pancreas Nourishment herbal capsules, which contain Trichosanthes root, Netoginseng, Honeysuckle flower, can assist in regulating and balancing the body's system to improve pancreatic function and absorption of blood sugar.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the herbs contained in Pancreas Nourishment capsules promote the production of body fluids to clear away excess 'heat' in the lung and stomach-which can impede the production of body fluids leading to thirst, dryness of lung and the inability to metabolize sugar.
Combined with lifestyle and dietary changes, many of Dr. Zhao's patients have experienced elimination of the symptoms associated with Diabetes and even the need for Insulin.
